Virtue of the Month

 

August/September - Teamwork

Teamwork is the ability to cooperate with others in carrying out a common goal.

 

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10    Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their hard work. For if one of them should fall, the other one can raise his partner up. But how will it be with just the one who falls when there is not another to raise him up?

 

October - Friendship

Friendship is the spiritual bond between two persons formed by mutual admiration, respect, benevolence, support, and gift of self.  The ability to form friendships is one of the greatest virtues.

 

Proverbs 17:17 He who is a friend is always a friend, and a brother is born for the time of stress.

 

November - Forgiveness

Forgiveness is the virtue by which we pardon those who have offended us in any way and then forget the offense.

 

Colossian 3:13  Bearing with one another and forgiving one another, if one has a grievance against another; as the Lord has forgiven you, so must you also do.

 

December - Generosity

Generosity is the virtue by which we freely and cheerfully share something of our own with others.

 

Hebrews 13:16 Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have; God is pleased by sacrifices of that kind.

 

January - Punctuality

Punctuality is “being on time” for our engagements, commitments, duties, and assignments; and in general for all our affairs.

 

Philippians 2:3-4 Do nothing out of selfishness or out of vainglory; rather, humbly regard others as more important than yourselves, each looking out not for his own interests, but (also) everyone for those of others

 

February - Honesty

Honesty is straightforwardness and trustworthiness in words and actions.

Proverbs 12:5 The plans of the just are legitimate; the designs of the wicked are deceitful.

March - Perseverance

Perseverance is the virtue which helps us keep on pursuing our goals in the midst of difficulty until we reach it..

John 15:4 Remain in me, as I remain in you. Just as a branch cannot bear fruit on its own unless it remains on the vine, so neither can you unless you remain in me.

April - Optimism

Optimism is the virtue by which we always look for the best out of any situation no matter how difficult or discouraging it may appear.

 

May - Sincerity

Sincerity is “telling it like it is” and “living like we are.”

 

2 Corinthians 1:12 For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly to you-ward.
